A delegation from Kazakhstan headed by the newly elected Vice-President of the International Weightlifting Federation (hereinafter - IWF) - Zhanat Tussupbekov, visited the Olympic facilities in Tokyo and held negotiations on preparations for the Olympic Games in 2020. During the first visit of Mr. Tussupbekov as Vice-President of the IWF, he personally inspected the sports halls for athletes training in weightlifting and other Olympic sports, sports rehabilitation rooms and gyms, as well as sites for future sports facilities construction for the Olympics.  

    

On 30th of May, 2017 the CEO of the KMG International group of companies, Zhanat Tussupbekov, was elected as the new Vice-President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) during the IPF Election Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

As part of the current visit, an agreement was established on the interaction of the Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation (hereinafter referred to as RKWF) and the Japanese Weightlifting Federation for training of the Kazakhstan athletes in the training camps of the Japan Olympic Training Center. The trainings will be organized several times in 2019 and 2020, before the Olympics following a special schedule for better adaptation of weightlifters from Kazakhstan. Both sides decided to strengthen cooperation and experience exchange between trainers, as well as between the specialists in medicine and nutrition.

        

Furthermore, the Japanese side expressed interest in studying the experience of the RKWF in organizing major sports events, underlining the successful organization of the World Weightlifting Championship in Almaty in 2014, as well as the participation of the IWF Marketing Commission in the organization of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

        

The visit to the Olympic facilities took place during the participation of IWF Vice-President Zhanat Tussupbekov in the meetings of the Executive Committee and the annual IWF Congress on 13th-15th of June. The main issues of the IWF events were the development, marketing and strengthening of the anti-doping discipline, as well as preparations for the 2017 World Championships in Anaheim (USA) during 28th of November -5th of December, 2017.

 

The initiatives that Mr. Tussupbekov implemented as the President of the RKWF had a significant role in the development of sports activities in those countries where weightlifting needs support. The work carried out in Kazakhstan was highly appreciated internationally, including initiatives aimed at strengthening anti-doping discipline and mass attraction of children to sports and improving the conditions of the training process throughout the country. It should also be noted that under the leadership of Mr. Tussupbekov, the RKWF showed excellent results in coordinating the marketing campaign for the past 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In the same year, he paid an active contribution to the first international broadcast of the Asian Weightlifting Championship.

     

Besides great sports achievements, Zhanat Tussupbekov has great professional experience in successful management of companies, during the last 11 years - in the oil and gas industry. Since May 2012 he has been the General Director (CEO) of the KMG International N.V. group of companies, and is also a member of its Board of Directors.
