More than 600 people, including KMG International employees and their families, participated in the seventh edition of the Rompetrol Run and Care event that took place on Saturday, June 20, across the country. The running was individual, respecting the conditions of social distancing in force, in mountain or sea areas, in the park or on alleys, and the participants ran distances between 2 and 42 kilometers, monitored with any sports application and subsequently published on Facebook using #rompetrolhospice.
6600 kilometers ran or walked are converted into liters of fuel, which will be donated by Rompetrol to support the specialized palliative care provided by Hospice at patients’ homes.
"Run and Care is part of our tradition of running for a charitable cause and supporting essential areas of Romanian society, through partnerships with NGOs. We have taken into account the current conditions and recommendations of the authorities, and instead of a group running organized in one place in Bucharest, we invited all people with a civic sense and eager to be physically active, to join the event and run anywhere across the country. It went out as an unique charity event, a manifestation of responsibility, and I express my appreciation and gratitude to each runner in solidarity with the Hospice mission” – Alexey Golovin, Chief Officer of Legal and Corporate Affairs.
The event was 17-hour length, between 5 am to 10 pm, participants could have ran whenever they wanted, and the company offered 6600 liters of fuel for their 6600 km effort, to be used in support of people in need of palliation.
“When you go through a difficult moment, the hardest in your life, you want to be at home, next to your loved ones, where you feel comfortable. In Bucharest, for example, there are only two complete palliative care teams to provide services at home, made up of doctors, nurses and therapists, both from Hospice Casa Speranţei Foundation, who take care of patients with incurable diseases and their families, for free, right at their homes. We are grateful to our partners from Rompetrol who are with us, once again, and help us reach our patients more easily. The Run and Care event is about solidarity and involvement. 35,000 children and adults with incurable diseases have benefited from palliative care in the past 28 years since Hospice Casa Speranţei was established in Romania. It is the largest Foundation that offers free specialized services, both at day centers, outpatient clinics and impatient units, at patients’ homes and in partner hospitals.
Rompetrol Run and Care had its first edition in 2013, being designed as a running and corporate volunteering project, managing to raise over 60,000 euros by involving employees, their families and business partners alike. The money has supported the missions of associations and foundations such as MAME, Edulier, Magicamp, Hope and Homes for Children, Agent Green, “Asociaţia pentru Dravet şi alte epilepsii rare” (Association for Dravet and other rare epilepsies).
