For the correct information of the public opinion, Rompetrol Rafinare Company, member of KMG International, wants to make the following statement:

 

According to the internal procedures of the company regarding such situations, the place where the accident took place was identified – The Vacuum Distillation Unit (VD), pipeline PM-100-025-80-40H, next to the valve 100-FV-071 – and it turned out that the equipment was functioning in normal parameters. Also, is turned out that the intervention was realized in accordance with the instruction RIS-IL-06-31-V3 “Working instructions for executing and assembling safety clamps with resin injection” by the intervention team of Rominserv, the general contractor of the Group.

 

Today was launched the procedure for investigating the causes and the material damages by the competent authorities: the Territorial Work Inspection, the County Inspectorate of Emergency Situations, Constanta County Prosecution, The National Guard of Environment – Constanta County Commissary, and the company provided to these institutions all the information they have requested.

 

Currently, the refinery operated at low capacity and all the technical measures for its safe operation have been taken. The technical teams currently evaluate the intervention/remedial measures necessary on medium and long term.

 

According to the first investigations made by the experts, the fire on the Petromidia platform on 22 August 2016 had not been preceded by an explosion. This conclusion can also be found in the official communications release by the General Prosecutor within the Constanta Court of Appeal and the Territorial Work Inspection.

 

Rompetrol Rafinare Company also mentions that all its employees in Romania benefit an integrated system of life and health insurance. The life insurance covers death, invalidity and serious diseases, while the health insurance covers expenses with hospitalization and surgeries.

 

The company’s representatives are in a permanent contact with the families of the colleagues affected by the fire on the Petromidia Platform and ensures all the necessary support in this difficult moments.
