KMG International, in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is proud to bring to the art-loving public of Bucharest the exhibition of Kazakh artist Leyla Mahat - HERE I AM, to be held at Galateca Gallery between 11 March and 4 April. Entrance to the exhibition is free*.
“Leyla Mahat is one of the most acclaimed Kazakh painters, having received awards and recognition in various parts of the world. Her work transcends geographical and cultural boundaries and translates itself in a universal language of art, which brings together people of different backgrounds. Her exhibition is focused on finding one’s identity and the relationship between human kind and nature, which are universal themes, tackled daily and of great importance in today’s society.” - H.E. Mr. Daulet Batrashev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Romania.
“We have a long history of supporting artists, as part of our commitment to foster the cultural partnership between Romania and Kazakhstan through a wide variety of initiatives. We believe education through art plays an important role in the alternative development of communities, thus we plan to continue to support male & female artists who are active contributors to this change.“ - Alexey Golovin, VP of KMG International.
Leyla Mahat, an associate professor at the Art Faculty of the Kazakh National University of Arts, has held exhibitions around the world, including in countries such as Italy, USA, India, China, Germany, Japan, Belgium, UK and is the winner of many awards, including the State Award “Medal - 20 years of Independence” for the contribution to the culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Franz Kafka medal, received in Prague, the Czech Republic.
About the exhibition
HERE I AM is a true testimony of finding the artist's true identity and shedding everything that is not necessary and damaging nature, in a consumerist world where the relationship between human kind and the environment is quickly deteriorating:
“The older I become, the closer I get to myself. The unnecessary shells are shed. (..)
The Earth is struggling with pain and hardship. We overheated her. We broke her up.
She’s sliced up and cut open. Yet we want more. And more.“
*Visitors are welcomed to the exhibition held at the Galateca Gallery (2-4 C.A. Rosetti Str., District 1, Bucharest) between 11 March and 4 April, Tuesday to Friday between 12:00 and 8:00 PM and on Saturdays, between 11:00 and 7:00 PM.

About Kazakhstan
The rich history of this state situated in Central Asia dates back to the times when Nomadic tribes populated the region, but it was only at the beginning of the fifteenth century when the Kazakh identity came into being. Kazakh culture has been shaped by the nomadic pastoral lifestyle, with Islamic and Turkic, as well as modern influences (Russian and Chinese) playing a part in its development.
Currently, the Republic of Kazakhstan is ranked the ninth largest country in the world, having a diversified population of over 130 ethnic groups. The country is the number one economy in Central Asia, holding 60% of the region’s GDP. Its capital, Astana, having over 1 million inhabitants, is one of the most modernized cities in the region and home to many futuristic buildings designed by renowned architects.
