The Rompetrol Group continues in 2008 as well the extension of its activities in the Republic of Moldova, Rompetrol Gas, the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) trading division, having recently acquired the majority shares stock of MoldInterGaz Moldova.

“By this takeover, Rompetrol Gas enters a full rising market, of approximately 55.000 tones annually, which may become an extension platform of LPG distribution throughout the countries where Rompetrol Group is already present on other segments (Georgia, Ukraine, etc). The strategic position, between Europe and Asia, may also sustain the continuous supply at competitive prices of these markets” declares Toma Veron, the General Manager of Rompetrol Gas.

MoldInterGaz is a company specialized in imports and whole and retail distribution of liquefied petroleum gas in the Republic of Moldova. Its assets include retail distribution stations of autogas (predominant in the North of Moldova), sale points for gas cylinders and a filing station. To these are also added storage capabilities in Ungheni (for Western imports) and Tîrnova (for Eastern imports).

“Rompetrol Gas targets the LPG activity development on the Republic of Moldova market and reaching in the following 5 years a market share of approximately 20%. MoldInterGaz had at the end of last year a market share of 5% on the distribution segment and 10% for LPG imports” adds Veron.

The Group’s LPG trading division estimates for this year a turnover of approximately $100 million, an increase against 2007 when a level of $54 million was registered. The Company’s plans are supported both by the completion of a total investment of approximately $20 million, the opening this year of new LPG bottling stations in Arad and Bacău, as well as by developping the distribution segment in 3 main directions: gas cylinders, autogas and small bulk.
