The Rompetrol Group, Fundaţia pentru SMURD and the General Inspectorate of Aviation (IGAv) continue the partnership for supporting air emergency interventions, the movement of medical personnel and the transportation of victims in 2011 as well.

“Continuing the partnership with SMURD is a natural step for a company that develops social responsibility programs and is permanently concerned with the improvement of the specific social issues of the communities in which it carries out its operations. In 2011, as well, the Rompetrol Group will cover the entire fuel consumption for the helicopters used by the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication, thus facilitating the air medical interventions and saving lives. The initiative is part of Rompetrol’s social responsibility platform, "Energy comes from the heart", which comprises the national program "Together for each and everyone" and other specific environmental and healthcare projects”, declares Gavit Kurkimov, Vice President of the Business Development Division of the Rompetrol Group.

In this cooperation, in 2011, the Rompetrol Group, through Rompetrol Rafinare, will provide a monthly amount of 30 tons of Jet A 1 fuel, the quantity estimated for the operation of the two helicopters in Bucharest and Târgu Mureş, the total value of the support provided amounting to approximately USD 310.000.

„SMURD’s mission is to save patients in critical condition and requiring rapid and highly-competent intervention, and Rompetrol, through its support, plays an active role in this action. The direct cooperation with the General Inspectorate of Aviation and Rompetrol represents a chance offered to people who need emergency medical aid from SMURD”, declares Raed Arafat, President of the Managing Board - Fundaţia pentru SMURD.

Starting with the year 2008, the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) has carried out air emergency interventions at national level, thus contributing to the transportation and saving of a number of 2470 injured people. In 2010, in the air medical operating centers benefiting from the sponsorship provided by the Rompetrol Group, 835 interventions were performed, amounting to 1315 flight hours.

The General Inspectorate of Aviation has an important contribution to these SMURD actions by operating the 2 helicopters, as well as by ensuring rapid access during interventions by using all its territorial structures.
