The Rompetrol Group, through its national program of social responsibility – “Impreuna pentru fiecare” (Together for Everybody) has supported the foundation of Snoezelen multisensory stimulation center in Bucharest, which offers palliative care to the patients with life-threatening diseases. The total value of the works that have been realized with Rompetrol’s support constitutes 100.000 RON.
“People and communities have growing and pressing needs, so TRG involvement springs from the necessity of the society, we live in, to have a normal life. All our CSR groups and especially this project infuse us with hope that we can change things to better. We are in a continuous process of building partnerships with the local authorities and other interested groups from the community; we invest in health and environmental protection, in order to support our society” states Mihaela Ungar, Group’s Communication and Marketing Manager.
The project implemented from August till December 2013 involved specialized works for setting up 5 rooms within the multisensory stimulation center, which include a therapeutic room, a physiotherapy room, bathrooms designed for people with disabilities, a treatment room. The center functions within the unit with beds manufactured by the Foundation, in district 2, in Bucharest and at least 60 children with advanced life-threatening diseases and severe physical disabilities will be the direct beneficiaries.
“Free medical services provided by the center’s hospice team include initial medical examination and periodical reexamination, symptoms control, nursing and kinetotherapy services. The patients’ caregivers will be involved in the multisensory stimulation services, as indirect beneficiaries, in order to be instructed to perform stimulating exercises at home and will take part in different levels of the therapy – massage, physiotherapy, gymnastics adapted to the disease of each patient individually. Yearly, the Snoezelen center will hold around 300 multisensory stimulation procedures.” – states Alex Pădureanu, CEO of Hospice Casa Speranţei Bucureşti.
The target of The Rompetrol Group and Hospice Casa Speranţei partnership was one of the 16 CSR projects, in the field of health and environment protection, selected for implementation in 2013, out of a total number of 218 applications received on the website of the program “Together for Everybody”. There are two other health programs under completion in Bucharest: one within Victor Babes Hospital – regarding the establishment of the first center with integrated medical and psychological services for the patients with AIDS and HIV from Romania and the other one within the Fundeni Institute – facilitization of Pediatric Oncology Unit (PAVEL Association project)
Rompetrol supports the Hospice also in other fundraising and donation projects. There have been placed donation boxes in all Rompetrol gas stations from Bucharest and Brasov for the clients financially contribution and to support the Hospice activity, starting with 2012. There has also been rehabilitated a secondary palliative care center in Bucharest with the support of Rompetrol in 2013 and in 2012 more than 50 company employees took part in the charity marathon “1000 Balkan Charity Challenge” to raise funds and support the Foundation.
About “Together for Everybody”: The social responsibility program, began in 2009, is destined for the development and involvement of the local communities through initiation, support and performing of projects related to health and environment protection. Since the debut of “Together for Everybody”, from 2009 till 2013, the company has earmarked more than 1,250,000 USD for the carrying out 86 projects in all the regions of Romania, for the direct support of 300,000 people.
HOSPICE Casa Speranţei (www.hospice.ro) is the biggest non-profit medical organization in Romania that offers free of charge palliative care services for children and adults with incurable diseases in Bucharest, Brasov, Fagaras and Zarnesti.
Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual. (As by World Health Organization Definition, 2002). HOSPICE has been offering for 20 years free palliative care for children and adults with incurable diseases and was appointed as center of excellence in South-East Europe.
