Rompetrol planted 5000 spruce saplings on an area of 1.1 hectares in Paltinis, Sibiu County, through the "We plant good deeds in Romania" initiative.
After last autumn’s planting, over 30 Rompetrol volunteers returned to Paltinis on Saturday, April 27, to continue the regeneration of the forest heritage in the Parang-Cindrel Mountains of the Southern Carpathians, planting 2000 spruce saplings, the rest being planted mechanically and by daily workers, on an area of over one hectare, managed by the Cindrel Forest District. Volunteers worked together with forestry specialists and benefited from practical lessons and valuable information on reforestation of areas with cut forest vegetation.
"Spruce is the most common conifer species in Romania, growing optimally in the targeted area for reforestation. We will monitor the young plantations and intervene whenever necessary, with maintenance work and additions, to ensure that the young saplings planted will give rise to a new forest." Mihai Enescu, forestry engineer, representing "We plant good deeds in Romania".
Over the past three years, Rompetrol through the "We plant good deeds in Romania" campaign, have planted approximately 62,000 saplings, trees, ornamental plants and shrubs oon an area of about 17 hectares, with the help of 250 volunteers.
This initiative contributes to three goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: (13) Climate Action, (15) Life on Land, and (17) Partnerships for the Goals.
