Rompetrol implements the project "Accelerating the network of ultra-fast charging stations in Central and Eastern Europe" in 11 stations on A1 highway in Romania.

KMG Rompetrol Development SRL, as Beneficiary, signed a financing agreement with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) for the implementation of the project "Development of Rompetrol's alternative fuel infrastructure on A1 highway at the RO - HU border" funded under the financing instrument "Mechanism for the Interconnection of Europe" (CEF - Transport) 2021-2027.

About the Beneficiary

KMG Rompetrol Development SRL, part of the KazMunayGas International (KMGI) Group, is the investment vehicle of the Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund - created between KMGI and the Energy Investment Management Company (SAPE).

The alternative fuel infrastructure development project represents an important pillar to implement the Group's decarbonization strategy in order to achieve the ambitious targets to combat global warming.

Project objectives:

  • Creation of an alternative fuel infrastructure corridor by implementing ultra-fast charging stations on the TEN-T ("Trans-European Transport Network") roads, in existing filling stations, in Romania, on the A1 motorway, at the border with Hungary (Nadlac – Sibiu section);
  • Implementation of projects which are part of the Group Decarbonization Strategy;
  • Compliance with EU requirements for electric mobility on TEN-T roads;
  • Meeting market needs - through these facilities, the company's brand will be strengthened as a provider of integrated mobility solutions.

Specific elements of the project:

The installation of 11 charging stations of 300 kW (each with two charging points of 150 kW) and modernization of the grid connection for 11 locations to 600 kW / each in CNAIR 1 locations.

300 kW stations:

  • Ultra-fast charging to be accessible to the public.
  • This highly efficient charging station can charge an electric vehicle in approx. 20 minutes, providing a much faster charging experience than currently available.
  • Another benefit is that vans and heavy vehicles can also be charged.

Investments:

The investment of KMG Rompetrol Development SRL is considered a project of common interest, as it contributes to the development of a comprehensive network of recharging and refueling infrastructure to support the widespread uptake of low- and zero-emission vehicles in road transport modes.

The total estimated investment amounts to approximately EUR 2.2 million, of which:

  • EUR 990,000 is provided by the European Union, through the financing instrument Connecting Europe Facility (CEF);
  • Approximately EUR 300,000 is provided from bank loan;
  • The rest of the funding is covered from own sources.

The duration of the project is 36 months, from 10.11.2022 to 9.11.2025.
